One day you get a letter in the mail from your ISP warning
you that you have been caught pirating copyrighted material. You think to
yourself, “I’m not going to stop downloading music, that’s ridiculous!” So how
do you remain anonymous when illegally downloading torrents off the web? This
article I read and have already posted about has another section with a couple
tips on how to try and stay stealthy on the web.
There are several different methods that you can use in
order to block your IP address from being traced back to you and your personal
information. However, some are now more reliable than others due to an increase
in crackdowns against online piracy. Some simple methods that don’t always
provide safety are using your BitTorrent client’s encryption. This article
claims that one of the better methods but more drastic methods is to use proxys
like BTGuard; “It funnels all your BitTorrent traffic through another server,
thus keeping your IP address hidden from anyone connecting to your BitTorrent
swarm.” What this does is that if you download a file that is being tracked,
the IP address that will be linked to the file is that of BTGuard’s and not
your own, and seeing as this proxy does not keep logs, nothing will be traced
back to you.
